Taos, New Mexico

July 7th finds us in our friends' (Luella and Carveth Kramer) backyard. They have a great little space for us to park, and our back window looks up to Picuris Peak, a band of sagebrush and lots of sky. Fortunately for us, the transition down from South Fork wasn't too difficult, as it's been mainly cloudy, and thus cool.

Taos is bustling. There is very little of the quiet, quaint little town we once used to know. I suppose there is a positive side: most services and goods are available now, though at a "resort mountain village price." Diesel is at an all-time high: $3.19 a gallon. Higher than South Fork, even.

But it's very good to be close to friends. And Taos is still in a beautiful location. Tomorrow Carveth and I will go to Albuquerque and do the specialized shopping we can't accomplish here---camcorder batteries, special synthetic oil, awning arms for the RV, etc. At 2.5 hours distant, it's not too terrible a commute.

We recently heard that our daughter, Elly, is expecting, so there's a new element in our lives, as well.

We'll keep you posted.

Dennis
