Back in New Hampshire
Here were are, settled down nicely on a small bit of land in the foothills of the Belknap Mountains near Laconia, N.H. The lupines are starting to bloom, and daisies intermingle with their purple. Yesterday, our pair of swallows took up residence in their usual birdhouse, and a couple of hummingbirds drink from our feeder. If we but had decent weather, it'd all be sublime---but we've only enjoyed 1 or 2 pleasant days thus far. New Hampshire, for our tastes (and admittedly MOSTLY our tastes), is really only about July 15-October 15——4 good months.
I'm always comparing geographic locations on the basis of "how many good months" do you get? Tolerant souls can have 12 good months anywhere, but most of us relish sun and something-in-between blistering and freezing, and something drier than sopping wet or stifling humidity. And pesky bugs can inhibit anybody, even in GOOD weather. If any reader has a "12 month" solution, I'd like to read about it!
